চট্টগ্রামের চা বাগানগুলোতে চলতি বছর সোয়া এক কোটি কেজি চা পাতা উৎপাদনের লক্ষ্যমাত্রা নির্ধারণ করা হয়েছে। এটি চট্টগ্রামের চা শিল্পের ইতিহাসে সর্বোচ্চ উৎপাদনের লক্ষ্যমাত্রা বলেও সূত্র জানিয়েছে। সূত্র জানায়, দেশে চা শিল্পের সূচনা চট্টগ্রাম থেকে হলেও মাটির প্রকৃতি এবং আবহাওয়ার কারণে এখানে উৎপাদন সবসময় কম থাকে। চা পাতার উৎপাদনের পেছনে বৃষ্টিপাত অত্যন্ত গুরুত্বপূর্ণ।
চট্টগ্রামে বৃষ্টি দেরিতে হয়। এটি সিলেট কিংবা পঞ্চগড়সহ অন্যান্য অঞ্চলের চা বাগান থেকে চট্টগ্রামকে পিছিয়ে রাখে।চট্টগ্রামের ২২টি চা-বাগানের মধ্যে কয়েকটির অবস্থা খুবই ভালো। অন্যান্যগুলোতেও যাতে ভালো উৎপাদন হয় সেজন্য নানামুখী পদক্ষেপ নেয়া হয়েছে। উৎপাদন বাড়ানোর মাধ্যমে চট্টগ্রামের ২২টি বাগান থেকে এ যাবতকালের সর্বোচ্চ উৎপাদনের লক্ষ্যমাত্রা নির্ধারণ করা হয়েছে।
সূত্র জানিয়েছে, দেশে চা উৎপাদন দিন দিন বৃদ্ধি পাচ্ছে। বাংলাদেশ অতীতের সকল রেকর্ড ভঙ্গ করে চা উৎপাদন করলেও চট্টগ্রামে উৎপাদন কমে যায়। চট্টগ্রামের বাগানগুলোতে চা উৎপাদনের পরিমাণ নিম্নমুখী হয়ে উঠে। ২০২০ সালে চট্টগ্রামের বাগানগুলো থেকে ১ কোটি ১৩ লাখ ৫৯ হাজার ৬৫৫ কেজি চা পাতা পাওয়া যায়। কিন্তু ২০২১ সালে এসে পাওয়া যায় ৯৬ লাখ ৫২ হাজার ৮২২ কেজি।
এক বছরের ব্যবধানে চট্টগ্রামের বাগানগুলোতে চা পাতা উৎপাদন ১৫ দশমিক ৩ শতাংশ কমে যায়। তবে চলতি বছর চা পাতার উৎপাদন অতীতের যে কোনো সময়ের তুলনায় বাড়াতে চান বাগান মালিকেরা। চা বোর্ডও এ ব্যাপারে বেশ সহযোগিতা করছে।
শ্রমিকদের আন্দোলন এবং কর্মবিরতি কিছুটা প্রভাব ফেললেও বছর শেষে চট্টগ্রামের বাগানগুলো থেকে ১ কোটি ২০ লাখ কেজি চা পাতা উৎপাদিত হবে বলে আশাবাদ ব্যক্ত করা হয়েছে।
ইতোমধ্যে বিভিন্ন বাগান থেকে বেশি ভালো ফলন পাওয়া গেছে বলেও সূত্র জানায়।চট্টগ্রামের একাধিক একজন বাগান মালিক গতকাল দৈনিক আজাদীকে বলেন, চট্টগ্রামের বাগানগুলোর অবস্থা আগের তুলনায় অনেক ভালো।
প্রতিটি বাগানই নানাভাবে চেষ্টা করছে উৎপাদন বাড়ানোর। ওয়াগগাছড়া টি লিমিটেডের ব্যবস্থাপনা পরিচালক আমিনুর রশীদ কাদেরী দৈনিক আজাদীকে বলেন, চট্টগ্রাম থেকে চা শিল্পের সূচনা হয়েছিল। সেই চট্টগ্রামের বাগানগুলো যাতে আরো ভালো করতে পারে সেই লক্ষ্যে বিভিন্ন উদ্যোগ নেয়া হয়েছে। বিশেষ করে নতুন বাগান সৃষ্টি, ক্লোন চারা রোপণ।
বিশেষজ্ঞরা নিয়মিত আমাদের বাগানগুলো পরিদর্শন করে কীটপতঙ্গ থেকে রক্ষার উপায় বলে দিচ্ছেন। দেখভাল করা হচ্ছে সারের সুষম বন্টনসহ বৈজ্ঞানিক নানা বিষয়। একই সাথে সুষ্ঠু ব্যবস্থাপনার উপরও জোর দেয়া হয়েছে। এসব উদ্যোগের সুফল মিলবে বলেও তিনি আশাবাদ ব্যক্ত করেন।
